Pura Vida!

Rugged mountainsides covered with coffee bushes, fruit trees, and brilliantly hued flowers. Birds and butterflies of astonishing luminence flit through the rain forest. An afternoon rain shower gives way in minutes to the sun. We love Costa Rica!

We've been here a week now. Evidence of God’s creative hand is everywhere. As Central America’s most stable nation, this democratic country has made a big commitment to its natural resources. We’ve been impressed by the overall cleanliness and obvious attention paid to the appearance of the countryside. Costa Rica is labeled as a 2nd world nation, not 3rd world as many of the other places we have been to for outreaches. The difference is very apparent. While areas of extreme poverty such as we “Westerners” tend to associate with the mission field definitely exist, there is also evidence of a desire to preserve and steward the resources that are present here.

This is the Costa Rican winter, and we wish we’d brought warmer clothes! We are, however, enjoying the cool rainy weather in contrast with the hot and humid Arkansas summer.

When we arrived last week, a team from Canada was finishing up their Mission Adventures program. On the 23rd of July another team of about 30, also from Canada, will come. We’re eagerly anticipating what God will do in their hearts and through their ministry during their 10 days here. Their week of outreach may include facilitating a VBS in Guarari, an impoverished area of San Jose, visiting a local orphanage, painting a house, serving YWAM Heredia, and times of intercession.

Until the team arrives we are helping out at YWAM Heredia, prepping for the team’s arrival, seeing a bit of Costa Rica, visiting YWAM San Jose, and who knows what else! We are trying to be flexible and allow the Lord to guide us while we’re here. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers!
